About Us

At Divorce by Mediation (DBM), you will be expertly guided by our Principal mediator, Julia Ejelovitch, an accredited family law specialist with over 15 years of experience.

About Our Mediator

Julia's expertise in both mediation and family law enables her to handle sensitive family disputes with a unique blend of professionalism and compassion.

As the founding principal of DBM, Julia is not only a seasoned family lawyer but also a nationally accredited mediator under the National Mediator Accreditation System (NMAS) and the Australian Institute of Family Law Arbitrators and Mediators (AIFLAM).

Specialising in all aspects of family law, with a particular focus on property settlements, Julia provides expert guidance to help you navigate complex financial negotiations and familial disputes with fairness and clarity. Whether you are facing a property settlement or parenting dispute, Julia’s goal is to use her considerable experience to facilitate constructive dialogue and achieve agreements that are equitable for all parties involved.

The Mediator's Role

As a neutral facilitator, Julia’s primary role is to aid in structured negotiations, promoting open communication while helping you explore viable solutions.

Throughout the mediation process, Julia will ensure a safe environment where all parties can negotiate openly without fear of being pressured into a decision or judgement being imposed on them. Her approach fosters respect and understanding, crucial in resolving issues amicably.

Julia’s key responsibilities as a mediator include:

  • Establishing ground rules for respectful communication and ensuring a safe, confidential space for discussions.
  • Identifying areas of agreement and disagreement, guiding parties toward finding common ground and fostering compromises which are often unavoidable in family law disputes, be it property settlements or parenting arrangements.
  • Empowering participating parties to actively participate in exploring solutions that reflect their own unique circumstances, and ensuring that all voices are heard and considered.
  • Once a mutual agreement is reached, drafting a clear, concise document that outlines the terms and conditions agreed upon, serving as a formal record of the settlement.

As a mediator, Julia will guide the parties towards a resolution and, if needed, offer an insight and comment regarding the legal aspects of their matter, but in the role of mediator she cannot provide legal advice to either party or make decisions on behalf of the parties. If the parties are legally represented at mediation, their respective solicitors will provide legal advice during mediation. If the parties do not have lawyers assisting them at mediation, but they would like to receive legal advice on the effect of the outcome agreed at mediation, each party will require to retain an independent lawyer to obtain such advice.

At DBM, our commitment is straightforward: to assist both parties in exploring options and working towards realistic and sustainable outcomes. We uphold a high standard of practice and adhere to a strict code of conduct, as endorsed by our accreditation bodies.
